Get creative with Stephen Colbert
Comedian-newsman Stephen Colbert has issued a DV Guru Challenge-like challenge of his own. A while back Stephen danced around a green screen with a light saber. Now he is posting the source footage and asking fans create their own mash ups. Watch this clip for more info. You can download the source footage here and get cracking. Think of this like a mini DV Guru Challenge. The War Tapes
Director Deborah Scranton gave digital video cameras to 10 members of the New Hampshire National Guard before their unit shipped off to Iraq in 2004. She didn't go herself because she wanted it to be about the soldiers, through their eyes. The War Tapes is the movie they made and it's the first war movie filmed by soldiers themselves on the front lines in Iraq. The soldiers shot over 800 hours of tape during their deployment. Another 200 hours was shot back home by the director and her crew. This is a movie I definitely want to see. It is playing now in select theaters across the country.
Results for the Slow Motion challenge

Our second DV Guru challenge has come and gone and we got a great batch of entries. These challenges are starting to pick up some steam and we were even mentioned on Episode 27 of the Videomaker podcast. Without further delay, here is my pick...
"Slo Mo Tests" by Mike Prevette had some of the best slow motion footage I have ever seen. Using a Phantom v4 he could capture sequences at up to 1,000fps. Way more than the 60 fps the HVX 200 does (which was the camera I thought he was using). To top it off, he used the perfect music to set the mood. And who doesn't like seeing slow motion of water falling. Mike also has another slow-mo video that you can view.
Be sure to check out the rest of the entries. They are all quite a bit different from each other. (in no particular order)

Nope, secondnature© brand dog litter is running another Poop Confessions contest:The video should reveal the creative and/or deceitful things your dog does when leaving that special little package in the house. We want to know what antics your dog pulls and what's going on in his/her little doggie mind when you're away. Think about the best way to capture your dog's confession and unique personality on tape. - secondnature© web site
Visit their website for more details and contest rules. They also have some videos from last year's contest you can view to get ideas. It just doesn't get any better than this...
